Stair Form treats movement through space as a subject for sculptural exploration. Several flights rise around a compact central mass, producing a silhouette that changes sharply from one viewpoint to the next. An arched passage introduces a lower route and a contrasting curved opening within the otherwise angular composition.
The model developed from the Geometricism response to Umemoto, using familiar architectural elements to test less familiar relationships between levels and directions. Rendered in a restrained concrete treatment, it concentrates attention on the geometry of ascent, enclosure and passage. Its intersecting routes make circulation itself the defining feature of the object.
